AA Interim President, Warren Monks '93...

As you’ve heard, back in February, David Lysinger ’96 had to resign from the AA Presidency prior to the end of his term.  So the BIM executive board scrambled and after a search committee compiled a list of potential interim candidates, they came to an agreement with Warren Monks ’93.  As Warren said recently, “I’m excited!” and so are we.  He’s on track to turn the interim title into permanent.

Who is Warren Monks?  He had a very noteworthy career as a student accumulating some above average statsSports Major.  GPA 91.  Ex C r = 256. COR = 1. Intern: Balto. Bears Football. After graduation he began his own company, Barking Dog Productions.  Through this venue he did P-B-P with the Hagerstown Suns baseball team.  He also was on-air at WNRK Newark, DE.  And as he gained experience he secured part time jobs doing Hopkins basketball & football on WERQ, WITH,WWLG.  Additionally he handled the P-B-P for Towson State ice hockey on the internet.  And just to keep from getting bored, from ’94-’96 he was the Evening Director/Instructor at BIM.

Obviously the most impressive characteristic of this gentleman is that he hustles.  He makes things happen.  And it is our prediction that he will bring this to the table and jack up the AA.  His job is a bit daunting because not only is he starting as an “Interim”, but he is also stepping up to the plate at precisely the same time the 40th Anniversary Campaign is beginning.

Currently his full time position is with the ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens - Chesapeake Region)  as a Maintenance Technician.  He has been a technician before with both Sprint and Utili Quest. .  He has also done quite a bit over the years with WAMD Radio in Aberdeen, as P.D. and sports announcing. Currently he’s a talk show host there.  He has also been doing color and some P-B-P with Cal Ripken’s Aberdeen Iron Birds.   Previously he worked with longtime BIM Administrator, Dennis Hill at the same station.

He and wife Beth reside in Aberdeen.  They have two grown sons.

BIM MENTOR SCOUT TEAM --

We need your help!  BIMers are special people because they always do more than required.  They are busy people who are anxious to add a little bit more to their plate.  They are known as, "can do" people.

We would like to recruit YOU as part of our BIMentor SCOUT TEAM.  YOU were once a PROSPECT.  YOU enrolled and became a STUDENT.  YOU successfully completed the course and became a GRADUATE.  Now we want your TWIN!!  This ensures us of continuing the blue chip bloodline.  Who do you know?  Look around.  Be aware.  How about that neighbor, relative, co-worker, waiter, clerk, etc.?  Ask them if they are interested in a broadcasting career.  Get their permission, name and phone number and CALL US with the information.  We do the rest.  Remember, if they enroll and start the second semester, as a member of the SCOUT TEAM, YOU get a check for $350.  It's a smooth seque for you to be a BIMentor to your referral. YOU determine the time and method of communications.  There are no requirements.  We need YOUR help.

 GUEST SPEAKERS' CORNER

If you are available as a speaker, or would like to attend a specific session/s, call 800-942-9246 -or- nb@bim.org.  CONTACTS.  CONTACTS. CONTACTS.

LANDLORD/ADVISOR

Here is a chance for YOU to earn extra money and help new BIM students. We are experiencing an increase in out of town enrollments, creating a need for additional accommodations.  Historically local renters have charged an average monthly rental of $400, which could be a significant chunk of YOUR mortgage payment or increased income.

We are asking alumni to open their doors.   Students are typical BIM ladies and gentlemen with few needs, good manners and solid finances (often supplied by parents).  Usually they require a room and bath and any other amenities that you would be willing to share.  They could benefit greatly from your expertise and wise counsel, having been a student yourself.  We need YOU, they need YOU, YOU need them .   Contact Dennis Hill call: 800-942-9246 or dh@bim.org.

The first to respond were Gillian Summers 02 and Jodi Kowalczyk-Demay 06

TALENT POOL

The BIM feeder network extends worldwide.  It includes novice and veteran personnel.  We depend on YOU to contact us if you are aware of an entry level or established professional position 800-942-9246 -or- nb@bim.org.

Over the years alumni have casually told us, "I have often thought that it would be rewarding to return to BIM as a teacher."  Any member of the AA should realize that BIM always gives preference to graduates when seeking instructors.  So if YOU are motivated, immediately send a resume and cover letter to Mr. Jeppi, who will reply to everyone.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

....New students who enroll at BIM before the start of class, need encouragement to maintain their enthusiasm.  Selected alumni volunteer to guide these neophytes, through the BIMentor Program.

....Take advantage of the GRO (Graduate Refresher Operation) program which permits you to return after you graduate, and re-take all or part of the course at NO cost.

....The TWIN program enables you to refer a prospect to BIM who enrolls and you will get a check in the amount of $250 when that student begins the first day of their second semester.

....Graduation affords the AA the opportunity to provide the school annually with a Keynote Speaker and members of the Honor Guard to express dignity, loyalty and inspiration to the graduates.

....Since 1986, the BIM Board of Advisors meets twice a year to offer suggestions and solutions to school problems.  This 12 member council is always comprised of at least 75% alumni.

....Alumni frequently serve as "Career Connectors" working hand-in-hand with the BIM Career Development Director, visiting high schools and college fairs.

The greatest accolade that can be bestowed on a graduate, is to be named to the prestigious HALL OF HONOR.  Established in 1982, this fraternity is comprised of loyal alumni and special friends who have been the personification of "Never lose interest in BIM" for a minimum of 10 years.
